“Our aim is to improve the health of the community by establishing a comprehensive vascular healthcare framework, with the goal of achieving an amputation-free India,” said Tapish Sahu, Secretary, Vascular Society of India. “It is inspiring to see so many people coming together for such a vital cause,” he said.
“The walk not only highlights the importance of vascular health but also underscores the power of the community to drive change,” Sahu added.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than one million limb amputations occur worldwide each year. In India, 40 to 50 percent of all amputations are due to complications of vascular diseases, particularly diabetes.
This highlights the critical need to increase awareness and preventative measures to control risk factors such as high blood sugar, hypertensionand high cholesterolexperts said at the event.
“The nationwide participation demonstrates the growing commitment to vascular health and the power of collective action to drive meaningful change,” said PC Gupta, President of the Vascular Society of India.
