The findings also revealed that those who adhered to a healthier plant-based diet had a 14 percent lower risk of breast cancer.
By contrast, those who followed a less healthy plant-based diet saw their cancer risk increase by 20 percent.
The researchers said the findings, presented just at the 2022 Nutrition annual meeting, highlight how nutritional quality varies between different soft foods.
They suggest that choosing quality plant-based foods is critical in cancer prevention.
A healthy plant-based diet should include dietary risk in iron, zinc, calcium and vitamin B12, noted study lead author Sanam Shah.
