The groundbreaking ceremony for this group home was conducted by UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit in the presence of UT Advisor Dharam Pal, Satya Pal Jain, Chairman of the Chandigarh Social Welfare Sub-Committee, and other senior officials. of the administration.

The construction of the shelter is planned on a plot of 1.95 hectares in Sector 31-C with a basement, ground floor and two upper floors. However, taking into account the current requirement, it is planned to have a basement, ground floor and a single floor for the time being. The second floor will be occupied based on future requirements. The total covered area of ​​the building will be 88,800 square feet.

The building will have parking for 62 cars in the basement and waiting/reception area, 30 shared double rooms, 18 single rooms, 13 suites with separate living room and bedroom with attached bathrooms, pantry and kitchen, separate public toilets for men and women’s toilets. and without barriers.

The building will also have two elevators, SPV power plant, fire alarm and extinguishing system, rainwater harvesting system and CCTV installation. The building will be built to achieve a minimum 3-star GRIHA rating to meet green building standards. The total construction cost of the building is estimated at Rs 25 crore, and it is likely to be completed within a period of one year.

Social organizations as well as parents, who were present during the groundbreaking ceremony, thanked the Chandigarh Administration for establishing such a facility and thanked the administration for providing this facility for the benefit of people who recovered from a mental illness.
