The report found an increase in loneliness, anxiety, anger, grief and feelings of substance and sexual abuse in children. About 44 percent of children reported that they could not share their feelings of grief, anger or stress with anyone, and three out of four children could not share serious concerns such as domestic or marital violence. Isolation from the peer group with increasing cases of child labor and drug abuse has a major impact on children’s mental well-being. They lacked coping methods to express their feelings and thoughts.
The situation was further aggravated, as perceived by parents, children are out of school and lack opportunities to learn at home. This was the case for about 61 percent of the children in the study. Feelings of loneliness (59 per cent) and anxiety about death, illness, isolation or disease (83 per cent) were highest in Karnataka. The pattern of disturbed sleep was mostly recorded in Delhi (51 per cent) and physical fighting was highest in Jharkhand (42 per cent).
A significant number of children also reported abuse, as they lived with fear of being alone with a given person (27%), sudden emotional or behavioral changes (27%), abandonment of previous play habits (29%), genital / anal injuries (15%). Percent).
