Covid-19 Fourth Wave: ‘Corona vaccine’s power, new variants of Omicron reduce the risk’

The number of people falling prey to COVID-19 is increasing rapidly. Many cases of new variants of Omicron have been reported in other cities including Mumbai, Pune. Mild symptoms have been seen in about 95 percent of the infected and they have not had any chance of being admitted to the hospital. But almost all the Kovid patients who are admitted have one thing in common.

,Higher risk of infection in comorbid patients”

Till now, most of the patients infected with the new variant and sub-variant of Omicron are treated in the hospital, most of them are comorbid i.e. already suffering from some serious disease. Dr. L. Pinto of Hinduja Hospital has said in the information given to the Indian Express that the reason for most of the patients being admitted to the hospital is their illness and not corona infection. He said, “We should take the knot that the job of the vaccine is to increase the immunity of our body so that we can stay away from diseases. The existing vaccines and booster doses are doing their job well.”

higher rate of infection, but less risk

Out of the information that India has shared with the global organization GISAID Registry, 99.6 percent of the cases are from Omicron’s variant and the new sub-variant BA.2. According to Dr. Pinto, “There was already a possibility of the arrival of new variants. But it is clear from the investigation of the infected with the new variant that none of these new variants are more dangerous than the old variants.” He said, “Even though the sub-variant BA.2.38 is rapidly infecting people in Maharashtra. But those who have been previously infected with Kovid or have taken a booster dose are not at high risk from this new variant.”
