Cashless treatment for acid attack survivors: Acid attack survivors to get cashless treatment in Delhi. The Delhi government may soon adopt a policy for this facility in private hospitals in the city. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has asked the Health and Family Welfare Department to come up with a plan in this regard. Funds have been donated by Delhi Arogya Kosh to cover all expenses related to the treatment of acid attack survivors, which includes all types of major and minor surgeries.
What is the Delhi government’s plan?
The decision came after Brave Souls Foundation, an NGO working for acid attack survivors, met Saurabh Bhardwaj along with AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh. However, in 2015, the Supreme Court made it mandatory to provide free treatment to acid attack victims in all private hospitals across the country. However, the Delhi government is bringing its own policy. In which the acid attack survivor will be given comprehensive treatment.
The assistance will be provided by the Delhi Health Fund
An official said that due to the high cost of treatment, the AAP government has asked the health ministry to fund it from Delhi Arogya Kosh. However, Delhi Arogya Kosh operates as a registered society. For treatment of any disease in a government hospital, assistance of up to Rs 5 lakh is given to the needy.
Officials said the minister had given instructions that road accident survivors should undergo emergency treatment and be admitted to all hospitals in the capital like the ‘Farishte Dilli Ke’ scheme so that their families do not have to travel here and there for treatment. In case of straying, a nodal officer will also be designated for the purpose.
