Kozhikode: P. Ragini, District Judge and Chairman of the Mental Health Supervision Committee, visited the Government Mental Health Center in Kuthiravattom on Monday to inspect the treatment facilities and safety measures in place for patients.
The visit was made in the wake of the latest incident in which an inmate was booked on the charge of murdering a 30-year-old woman at the Mental Health Center.
The district judge, who is also chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority, will present a report to the High Court detailing the security flaws she found at the institution and other problems faced by patients. Lack of sufficient hospital staff and building facilities are likely to be included in the report for further action.
The Kerala State Human Rights Commission member also visited the site to inspect the existing facilities and staff strength. The panel member, who recorded a post-visit suo motu case, had noted that the number of staff was insufficient to meet patient requirements. He also requested separate reports from the Hospital Superintendent and the District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) to take action.
