Dr Zoe recommends the supplements ‘we should all be taking’ – ‘Throw away the rest’

On ITV’s This Morning, Dr. Zoe helps solve the dilemma by recommending the best supplements that ‘everyone should be taking’.

Referring to a news article on supplementation, Dr Zoe said: “Britain spends around £442 million each year on vitamin and mineral supplements.

“Most people are wasting a lot of money because the typical person shouldn’t be taking a lot of these vitamins and tablets.

“So individual nutrients like magnesium and zinc, we don’t need to take them, most of us.

“We get the nutrients from our subsistence allowance.”

The TV doctor continued, “If you’re taking calcium and magnesium at the same time, they’re competing to be absorbed, so you’re probably not getting the best of it.

“Let’s focus on what we should all be taking.

“The National Health Service recommends that we all take vitamin D supplements between the months of October and March.”

In case you didn’t know, vitamin D is an essential nutrient that has various functions in your body, from maintaining healthy bones and muscles to supporting immunity.

The reason why it is necessary to supplement this nutrient during the winter months is because of its synthesis process.

Between the end of March and October, your body can create this vitamin organically by spending time in the sun, according to the NHS.

Since you need 10 micrograms of vitamin D a day, you may need additional help in the form of tablets to increase your levels.

However, some people are advised to take this vitamin year-round, Dr. Zoe shared.

“Vegans should take multivitamins designed for vegans.

“And beyond, unless they recommend it to me or there is a specific need such as iron, which is quite common.

“Especially women who have heavy periods may need an iron supplement, which should be taken with vitamin C to help absorb it.”

However, outside of these groups and apart from vitamin D, the doctor does not recommend taking other supplements. His final message was: “Throw the rest away”.
