EastEnders’ Jean makes life-changing decision in mental health story

Jean Slater has chosen to return to the hospital for mental health treatment in EastEnders.

Viewers will remember that Jean begged her daughter Stacey Slater to bring her home a few weeks ago, but Jean’s mental health only worsened once she was released from care.

Last week, Jean pushed her daughter Stacey during an argument, resulting in a nasty cut on Stacey’s back that she subsequently refused treatment for.

Having collapsed on Monday’s episode (May 30) Amid fears that he might have sepsis, his love interest, Kheerat Panesar, decided to tell a doctor what was really going on with the Slaters.

Tuesday’s (May 31) installment opened with the encouraging news that Stacey’s doctors were able to stop the infection in her wound.

Kheerat told Stacey how much she wanted to be with her, but Stacey was left face down and horrified to discover that a mental health nurse would be sent to evaluate Jean.

Back at the Slater house, Eve, Kat, and Lily had to stop when the nurse arrived after a terrified Jean had locked herself in the bathroom to hide.

Stacey defied the doctor’s orders by leaving the hospital and running home, where she was finally able to get her mother out of the bathroom.

“Mom, we’re not perfect. We’ve made so many mistakes, but no one has loved me like you do,” Stacey assured her mother.

Later, Stacey was shocked to find out that the nurse thought it best for Jean to go back to the hospital for treatment, and Jean agreed.

“I have to put on my ‘big girl pants,'” Jean told Stacey. “I’ve put you and Lily in the hospital… You deserve a better me.”

Jean even asked Stacey not to visit her in the hospital because she wanted her to focus on getting better. Will Stacey understand Jean’s decision?
