It was found that the group that ate almonds had increased levels of potassium and a greater amount of butyrates in the intestine. For the inexperienced, almonds they are loaded with lipids, fiber and polyphenols that help increase the production of butyrates, a fatty acid responsible for intestinal health. In addition, it helps regulate bowel movement and eliminates problems such as constipation, indigestion, and others.

“Almond consumption has a limited impact on the composition of the intestinal microbiota, but increases butyrate concentrations in adults, suggesting positive alterations in the functionality of the microbiota. Almonds can be incorporated into the diet to increase consumption of fiber without triggering intestinal symptoms,” the study reads.
