IIf, as seems inevitable, there is to be a change in the England coaching staff, then the expectation would be for a much more uncompromising regime. After so many weak performances, surely the time has come for a discipliner, someone to make sure the players shed the pounds off their bellies and the sagging off their minds.
There may also be a desire for them to be subject to a less generous salary structure. England’s top players have attractive advances amounting to several hundred thousand pounds, even before match and tour fees, and winning bonuses (delete where applicable) are taken into account. They are well rewarded not only for not playing well, but for not playing at all. Surely this cannot be correct.
