Expert weighs in on Justin Bieber’s facial exercise treatment for Ramsay Hunt syndrome

Justin Bieber has recently been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a disease that has temporarily paralyzed half of the singer’s face.

Due to his state of health, the Baby the singer is taking things easy and resting in his abode.

Interestingly, the 28-year-old singer shared on his Instagram post that he has been practicing facial exercises as part of his treatment to recover from facial paralysis.

“I have to go rest,” he said, “so my face is back where it’s supposed to be,” said the popular singer.

Interestingly, a group of health experts points out that the disease, which is a rare neurological complication caused by the varicella-zoster virus, mainly affects the facial nerve near the ears and the recovery period varies from person to person.

According to The New York TimesDr. Michael Ison, a professor of infectious diseases, mentioned that antiviral medications and steroids are considered the primary treatments for Ramsay syndrome.

“Physical therapy is not normally recommended for patients,” added Dr. Ison, “but it would not be harmful.”

Another health expert, Dr. Leah Croll, a neurovascular fellow at NYU Langone Health, also commented on Bieber’s treatment.

“Some facial exercises can be helpful for recovery, but it’s also important to take oral medications, such as acyclovir or valacyclovir, for overall improvement,” said Dr. Croll. ABC News.

To counteract this condition, Dr. Mukherji has suggested patients use tear drops and eye protection. In addition, they must wear glasses when they go out and bandage the eye that has been impacted when they sleep at night.
