Following troubling behavior that has led to charges of stalking and burglary, as well as accusations of assault and abuse, Ezra Miller says they are seeking treatment for “complex mental health issues.”
Miller says in the statement, sent through a representative to the hollywood reporter, “Having recently been through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering from complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment. I want to apologize to everyone I have alarmed and upset by my past behavior. I am committed to doing the work necessary to return to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”
The statement comes after a year in which Miller has been the subject of much controversy.
The actor, who uses the pronouns they/them, was arrested on two separate occasions in Hawaii, once in March for disorderly conduct and harassment following an incident at a karaoke bar, and again in April for an alleged assault in which he is accused of hit a woman in the head in a private residence. The parents of an 18-year-old have filed a protective order against Miller, alleging that the actor groomed his son since he was 12 years old. (The boy has denied being coerced by Miller in an Instagram post.) More recently, Miller was uploaded on August 8 with felony burglary in Vermont, where the actor resides, after allegedly stealing bottles of alcohol from a vacant local house in May.
After the series of scandals, the fate of Miller’s most prominent project, the DC title The flashhas been questioned. THR reported last week that the Warner Bros. studio was exploring various avenues for the big-budget film, including limiting the press Miller would do to release or even shelve the project, as a last resort. It was reported then that Warner had received indications that Miller, 29, whose mother had begun accompanying the actor, would seek professional help.
The flash is scheduled for June 23, 2023 as the release date.
