Family Centre lists support offered in wake of tragedy

Advisory services: Our trained therapists provide individual and family counseling to help children ages 4-18 and their parents cope with their emotions and adjust to their losses.

Grief Management: We guide parents in discussing tragic events with their children, providing age-appropriate explanations and addressing their fears and anxieties.

Resources for parents: To help parents help their children and teens cope with grief, we offer the following tips:

Encourage expression: Allow children and adolescents to express their feelings through words, drawings, games or physical activities.

Commemorative activities: We encourage activities such as creating memory boards, drawing, writing letters, and participating in group memorial projects to honor the deceased.

Be honest: Use clear, simple language about deaths to avoid confusion.

Maintain the routine: Maintaining a consistent daily routine can provide a sense of normality and security.

Seek professional help: If grief is overwhelming and persistently impacts a child or adolescent’s daily functioning, our professional counselors are available to provide therapeutic support.

Long-term support: Grief can resurface at different stages of a child or adolescent’s development. Family Centre remains committed to providing ongoing support, ensuring that families receive the help they need over time.
