According to experts, changes in the amount of specific substances in your body during periods are linked to premenstrual symptoms. Fever during periods usually indicates that the body is fighting bacterial and fungal infections. When prostaglandins are released, your body temperature rises. At the start of your period, there is an increase in the production of prostaglandins in the lining of your uterus. These molecules bind to receptors in the hypothalamus, which is responsible for regulating your body temperature.
