First H3N2 Variant Death Reported in Karnataka, India


Karnataka has reported its first death from the H3N2 variant in the state, authorities say. According to health department sources, the elder from Alur in Hassan died on March 1.

The Commissioner of the Department of Health, D. Randeep, who had been advised to conduct a death audit, confirmed the death from the H3N2 variant on Friday.

The now-deceased man exhibited symptoms of fear, chills, coughing, and a sore throat.

Following the death, teams from the health department are conducting medical tests in Alur and surrounding regions.

Swab samples are collected from people with symptoms and sent for testing.

The department has given instructions to monitor people with co-morbidities and those over the age of 60. Awareness is being raised among people not to self-medicate if they develop symptoms.
