WINTER is the perfect season to go running outdoors, not too hot and not too cold.
And to runners eager to participate in marathons next year, it’s time to put on your shoes and start training.
But as temperatures drop and light levels drop, you need the right gear to stay warm, comfortable and visible.
Today, Jane Atkinson discusses the products that can help you pick up your pace. . .
Stockings
WHEN you’re running, it’s hard to get it right. Too thick and you feel like your feet are crushed.
And the ones that move behind your heel are horrible.
These Energy Run socks from Enertor tick a lot of boxes.
They feature anti-chafing and anti-blister protection, ultralight materials to reduce fatigue, enhanced ventilation for comfort, and antimicrobial yarn to guard against odors and bacteria.
They are made of a special fiber that has a natural mineral additive that increases the anaerobic limit, resistance and performance.
I thought these felt a bit synthetic and thin. But put them on and they’re great.
tank tops
THIS is called Lifa Active Solen Singlet. But call a thing by its name…this is a tank top.
Tank top or not, this one is still great.
In fact, it’s probably the best I’ve ever had, and I’m picky.
This Helly Hansen shirt contains S.Café technology, a particular process that infuses the fabric with used coffee grounds for chemical-free sun protection. The upper is super lightweight, with a special moisture-wicking fabric to keep you dry.
It’s made with 60 percent recycled polyester. But the best is the fit.
Helly Hansen’s tank top fits perfectly to your body without the dreaded sticky element. And it doesn’t go up when you run.
Jacket
ABOUT three quarters of runners say they would run in the dark if they had the right gear.
Now Brooks Running has launched its new Run Visible collection.
It means that it can be seen from 600 feet away.
Includes men’s and women’s gear: tops, jackets, tights, shorts, and vests. The jacket is ace because it also turns into a little vest if you get tired of wearing a jacket.
It’s really light, with little zip pockets and a stowable hood.
I used it in the rain for a 30 minute run and didn’t get wet at all. The only weird thing is the size. I needed a large and I’m always a medium. So go for a larger size.
