Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield is set for a season on the sidelines as the Cats take a conservative approach to his fitness.
Dangerfield was replaced in Geelong’s win over the Power with a calf complaint and has struggled to capture his best form this year, and the Cats now want to get a training block for the 32-year-old.
“A couple of weeks of training now is likely to serve Pat better and provide the conditioning base required for the rest of the season,” said head of medical and conditioning services Harry Taylor.
“Our medical and performance team continue to monitor Pat’s condition.”
Geelong has two games left before his break in Round 13.

The club also provided an update on Rhys Stanley and Quinton Narkle, who both left late ahead of the Round 10 clash.
“Rhys and Quinton had every opportunity to play against Port Adelaide, but unfortunately they did not complete the relevant medical and conditioning tests before the game,” said Taylor.
“They will continue with their reconditioning programs and will be evaluated later in the week.”
Taylor added that Sam Menegola (knee) and Jack Henry (foot) are not far from returning, while ruck recruit Jon Ceglar will soon rejoin the football program after foot surgery.
