Genelia Deshmukh on Her 6-Week Fitness Regimen: Mums Often Put Fitness on Back Burner | Exclusive

In June of this year, actress Genelia Deshmukh began a six-week fitness journey and documented the same thing in her #GoGeneGo YouTube vlogs. Her strict fitness regimen finally came to an end on July 29, and she is elated with the results.

While she’s a regular at the gym, Deshmukh tells News18 that a six-week regimen was important in helping her get one step closer to her fitness goals. “I felt like I needed a much more focused ride to focus on myself and my health while continuing to do other things,” she says.

She reveals that her neglect in terms of diet, proper sleep, and lifestyle over the past six months also pushed her to take her health more seriously, adding, “Going to the gym was really hard. I started it after the lockdown due to encouragement from Riteish (Deshmukh; husband and actor). I used to look for ways to make bunk beds instead of being diligent and regular. I just wanted to get back to the routine.”

During the first week of her fitness journey, she took to social media, posting that she felt “insecure, insecure, insecure” during the process, as she, too, returned to shooting after a decade. The 34-year-old explains: “I had to wake up every morning at 5am, exercise, drop the kids off at school, and then go straight to shoot from there. Then I would shoot for a whole day and come home at 9 p.m. I would try to finish my steps either on set or after I got back. I would just sleep after that.”

Ask him if going back to the movies was also a reason to adopt a more fit lifestyle, and Deshmukh says, “It was definitely encouraging, but it wasn’t the only reason. It was me who didn’t want to glamorize fitness. There are times in my videos where you will see me doing steps in my sleepwear.”

The Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya (2012) actress says her takeaway from the last six weeks was not letting exercise take a backseat, even in the midst of a hectic schedule. “I want to say that for moms, fitness tends to take a step back. That is something that needs to change. You have to dedicate time to fitness and to yourself because it will only help you”, she concludes.
