Bangalore, December 9: A person can be considered completely healthy only if their mental health is also good, as the number of people suffering from neurological and mental health problems has increased since the last 10 years, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. K Sudhakar, in Bangalore.
Speaking at the Brain Health Initiative program that took place in Bengaluru’s
NIMHANS said that what is important is not only how many years we live, but also how we live.
The fluctuation in a person’s mental health creates problems not only for their physical health, but for society as a whole, he said.
“Our state is fortunate to have an institution like NIMHANS in Bangalore. Brain related diseases are also increasing due to non-communicable diseases. In the past 10 years, the number of people suffering from mental health problems, neurological diseases and accidents cerebrovascular disease is increasing.,” he said.
According to statistics, about 7-8% of deaths are due to problems related to mental health and brain, which is the second leading cause of death.
The Government of India is running a nationwide campaign on mental illness through the tele-counseling platform T-MANAS.
He said that the T-Manas platform launched by the central government was based on the E-Manas platform launched earlier by Karnataka. The state government is already conducting a pilot project in the rural districts of Chikkaballapur, Kolar and Bengaluru with the help of NIMHANS through the hub and spoke model.
Dr. Sudhakar said that a plan has been drawn up to make this service available in all parts of the state in the coming days.

Within the framework of the Brain Health Initiative, in the coming days, workers from ANM, CHO and ASHA will also be trained in this regard and informed on how to advise and treat people in danger, he added.
