Gorakhnath Temple Attack: Akhilesh Yadav Asks BJP To Consider Mental Health Problem Of Accused

New Delhi: Launching a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for unnecessarily dragging controversy around the Gorakhpur temple attack, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said the accused is reportedly suffering from mental problems.

“According to the information that is coming in now and what his father has said is that he has mental and bipolar problems. I think that aspect should also be seen. The BJP is the party that drags unnecessary trouble,” he said.

Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi, an IIT graduate, attacked security personnel deployed at the Gorakhnath temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur on Sunday night.

Abbasi, who tried to enter the temple after chanting the slogan ‘Allahu Akbar’, was arrested and remanded for two weeks.

Referring to the arrest of three scribes in connection with the Class 12 exam paper leak case, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said that not even the fourth pillar of democracy is safe under BJP rule.

“Journalists are also not safe under BJP rule. The journalists were arrested in Ballia for exposing the leak of the Sanskrit and English board exams. This is highly reprehensible behavior,” he said.

Calling the BJP a “serial killer of democracy”, he alleged that the saffron party has become an expert in vote plundering.

The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said that the way a female candidate’s clothes were torn in Lakhimpur in the latest panchayat elections and the role of a Samajwadi Party candidate was torn in Etah during the nomination process for the recent Panchayat elections legislative council shows that the BJP has “No confidence in the Constitution, nor in the law and democracy”.

The Samajwadi Party supremo also alleged that incidents of dacoity and looting have increased in Uttar Pradesh since the BJP came to power.

Yadav, who was in Kannauj in connection with the legislative council elections, expressed his hope that officials would conduct the polls in a free and fair manner.

He said that his party was working hard to ensure victory for its candidates and hoped that the Samajwadi Party would win the largest number of seats.
