Heavy Rains Predicted In Several States For Next 5 Days: 10 Precautions To Take During Monsoons



New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has shared an advisory to take precautions during monsoon as heavy to very heavy rains are predicted in some parts of the country in the next few days. As per IMD forecast, rainfall activity is likely to gradually increase over Peninsular India from July 31 (Sunday). Every year, several deaths are reported due to rain-related incidents across the country. So that no mishap occurs during monsoon. The IMD has announced measures to deal with the rainy season.

Precautions to be taken during rainy season

  1. Do not take shelter under isolated trees as it can be dangerous.
  2. Check the traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.
  3. Follow any traffic advisories issued during the period
  4. Avoid going to areas that are flooded. As per the IMD advisory, it is also advised to avoid staying near sensitive structures.
  5. Immediately exit and move away from ponds, lakes and outdoor water bodies (eg paddy fields).
  6. Go indoors or seek safe pukka shelter after hearing thunder. Stay indoors for 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder.
  7. If no shelter is available, get into lightning crouch immediately.
  8. When traveling, stay inside a car or bus or train when a thunderstorm approaches.
  9. Do not use electric/electronic appliances and stay away from downed power lines.
  10. If possible, avoid traveling to landslide-prone areas during monsoons.
