Higher risk of death in brain stroke patients exposed to Kovid-19: Study

Brain Stroke: A recent study by a team of doctors from Hyderabad revealed that one out of four brain stroke patients who tested positive for coronavirus died in the hospital. According to researchers, acute ischemic stroke (due to lack of blood supply to a part of the brain) was seen in 85.5 percent of Kovid-19 patients. Hemorrhagic stroke (due to bleeding in the brain) was seen in the remaining 14.5 percent of patients. The researchers said that 52.7 percent of patients in this study had poor outcomes, including a 24.5 percent mortality rate. The study was carried out by doctors from the city’s Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Yashoda Hospital and the National University of Singapore.

This study was published in the January-February 2023 issue of the Scientific Journal Neurology India. Researchers said that Kovid-19 infection can give rise to different neurological disorders including acute stroke. During the research, 610 patients were admitted for acute stroke, out of which 18 percent patients were found to be corona positive in the test. Of these, 72.7 percent patients were men, whose average age was 56.5 years. He had symptoms of corona for about seven days. The condition of patients with corona infection with brain stroke was seen to be worse.
