Hôtel-Dieu Grace Health relocates its Mental Health and Addictions Urgent Crisis Centre

The new home of Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare’s Mental Health and Addictions Urgent Crisis Center is now open.

The center opened Monday at 1030 Ouellette Avenue.

It is adjacent to the Goyeau Street entrance of the Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus Emergency Department and serves individuals ages 16 and older who are experiencing a mental health or addiction crisis and cannot safely expect community support from mental health and addictions.

Previously, service was offered at 744 Ouellette Avenue.

As AM800 News reported earlier this month.HDGH announced it would move services from 744 Ouellette to 500 Ouellette and 1030 Ouellette.

Kevin Matte oversees crisis services and Integrated Operations Manager between Hôtel-Dieu Grace and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

He says the center has its own entrance.

“Clients seeking our services would come directly to our service, but we moved here to get better alignment between us and the emergency department and to be able to have clients come to one place and make sure they are in the right place without no matter what happens.” ,” he says.

Matte says at the old location, the center served an average of eight people a day.

“I think there has been very good teamwork between the two teams,” says Matte. “Volumes are a little slow right now while people find out we’re moving. We’ve seen eight or nine customers so far. So we’re adjusting, but things are going well.”

He says the center will offer crisis intervention.

“We want people to be able to access mental health crisis services in a timely manner and so I think if people know we’re here, more people will have access to care,” he says.

The center is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Matte says crisis hotlines also operate from the site.

He says the program runs 24 hours a day and receives between 8,000 and 12,000 a year.
