Exercise is considered one of the best ways to control high blood pressure. A new study finds out how much exercise can lower blood pressure.
New research has found that exercising for five minutes a day could lower blood pressure. The research, which was published on Thursday by experts from an international academic collaboration led by the University of Sydney and University College London, suggested that doing five minutes of physical activity, such as walking uphill or climbing stairs every day, can help reduce blood pressure. .
According to the Prospective Physical Activity, Sitting and Sleep (ProPASS) Consortium study, replacing sedentary behavior with 20-27 minutes of exercise per day can result in a clinically significant reduction in blood pressure.
“High blood pressure is one of the biggest health problems globally, but unlike some major causes of cardiovascular mortality, there may be relatively accessible ways to address the problem besides medications,” said Emmanuel Stamatakis, joint lead author. and director of the ProPASS Consortium at the University of Sydney.
“The finding that doing just five extra minutes of exercise per day could be associated with significantly lower blood pressure readings emphasizes how powerful short bouts of higher-intensity movement can be for blood pressure control.”
The research team analyzed data from 14,761 volunteers to see how substituting one type of movement for another is associated with blood pressure.
The team estimated that replacing sedentary behavior with at least 20 minutes of daily exercise could reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease by 28 percent.
The World Health Organization estimated that 1.28 billion adults ages 30 to 79 worldwide have hypertension, constant high blood pressure, and that 46 percent of adults with hypertension do not know they have the condition.
