What are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are a mixture of minerals such as calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium, which when dissolved in water create electricity for the body. Our body acquires these electrolytes from the food items and liquid items that we consume on a daily basis. Electrolytes circulate in different parts of our body in the form of fluids and help in carrying out various bodily functions, such as carrying nutrients to the cells of the body, flushing out waste from the cells, rebuilding damaged tissues balancing the pH level of the body and regulating the functionality of the muscles, nerves, brain and heart.

Water usually contains these minerals. However, due to purification, some of these minerals are destroyed. When we do any physical activity and sweat, the electrolytes get out of the body through sweat, due to which the problem of dehydration arises.
