Chennai: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) developed Information Technology A tool for monitoring and improving the health of rural Scheduled Caste (SC) communities in Chittoor district Andhra Pradesh. This IT toolDeveloped using open-source software, deployed to collect detailed household-level annual Health related information.
This IT tool was also used to objectively evaluate the effect of medical treatment and for dietary advice on primary health issues. This will lead to the development of an optimal rural healthcare plan based on treatment effectiveness and cost.
This project is located in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Implemented in Palaguttapalli SC and nearby villages, Pakja Mandal and Pulicherla Mandal.
The doctor team of SV College of Ayurveda, Harnath Chari and Dr. Gyan Prasunamba visits the villages once in two months and helps in effective implementation of the project.
Elaborating on the current status of this project, Professor C. Laxman Rao, Department of Applied Mechanics, IIT Madras, said, “In the pilot villages, a detailed baseline survey and mapping of health status and health expenditure was conducted using IT tools. It was to address priority health problems through medical treatment and dietary advice and its monitoring using IT tools. Post intervention survey and mapping of health status and health expenditure using IT tools”.
