I’m a life coach – here’s how super-motivated people hit their goals

MOST of us experience ups and downs in our motivation to exercise, with the lows often outweighing the highs.

And it may be during these moments, when we find ourselves lying on the couch browsing social media, that we come across those people who seem to be constantly working out or constantly posting about their daily runs.

They never seem to fight him dips in motivation What do the rest of us do?

So what are its secrets?

Well, it turns out that these super motivated people we observe from afar don’t have a long list of secrets of motivation – instead, everyone does only ONE thing every day…

Jeff Spiers, Life Coach and Motivational Specialist for Wellness App ResultsWellnessLifestylesays, “Our minds are amazing things, but while they can be our ultimate support system, they can also be our biggest problem when it comes to finding the motivation to move.

“We know that movement makes our minds and bodies feel amazing, but despite this, our minds often do everything they can to stop us from doing it.

“The truth is that the more time we spend without doing exercise or movementthe harder it is to do it!

“If you want to move more but have found yourself stuck in a motivation routinethen this tip could transform everything for you…

“The key is CONSISTENCY.

“I work with a lot of clients who are super motivated and they all have one important thing in common: they never completely stop.

“Now I don’t mean exercise every day, I mean some kind of movement every day.”

WHY DOES THIS WORK?

To be scientific about it, becoming super motivated is really about following a formula that researchers have tried and tested.

Jeff says, “Consistency is the key that unlocks the door to habits that can affect your behavior.

“When you are consistent, you brain it generates momentum and it is this momentum that you need to have in order to access motivation.

This is because our habits are actually unconscious.

“We think we decided to exercise, but this decision-making process requires a lot of effort on our part.

“Habits emerge without us having to put a lot of energy or effort into it.

“So ultimately, the secret to super motivation is making exercise a habit, not a decision.

“And how do we do that?

“We keep movement as a regular thing in our day, so that in some way, shape, or form, we move as a habit.”

HOW TO MAKE EXERCISE A HABIT

Jeff says, “Instead of trying to force yourself into a long period of intense exercise every day, work with this structure of movement choices:

“Start with the type of exercise you most want to accomplish that day.

“And if your mind doesn’t have it, then move on to the next thing on the list.

“Keep doing this until you find the move that you and your mind agree you can pull off that day.

“This sounds strange, but it has been shown to work.”

“Here is an example (work the list from top to bottom):

Today I’m going to…

  • Do a 30-45 minute workout
  • Do a 20 minute workout.
  • Do a 10 minute workout
  • Go for a 30 minute walk
  • Go for a 10 minute walk
  • Put on a song and dance around the kitchen.
  • Stretch/do some yoga

Jeff says, “This is what the super motivated do.

“They work with their minds to find a compromise until eventually exercise and movement just become a habit that they practice unconsciously.

“Doing this tricks your brain into making movement a habit because it doesn’t allow it to simply convince you that you can’t find the motivation to exercise today, it gives you alternatives.

“Eventually, your brain stops using its energy to try to talk you out of moving, and instead gives in and accepts that you’re going to do some form of exercise every day.”
