Indian Drugmaker Marion Biotech Halts Manufacture of Cough Syrup


The Central Drug Standards Control Organization (CDSCO) is in contact with Uzbekistan’s national drug regulator regarding the matter.

“Immediately upon receipt of the information, UP Drug Control and the CDSCO team conducted a joint inspection of the NOIDA facility of the manufacturer, Marion Biotech, and will initiate further actions as appropriate based on the inspection report,” it said. Union Health. Ministry on Thursday.

Samples of the cough syrup were taken from the manufacturing facility and sent to the Regional Drug Testing Laboratory (RDTL), Chandigarh for analysis.

Meanwhile, the company Marion Biotech Pharma has said it has sent samples of the cough syrup for testing and has also halted production of the product.

Hasan, the legal director of Marion Biotech, expressed regret over the deaths on behalf of the company and said the government was conducting an investigation into the matter.

He added that samples were collected and action would be taken based on the report.

Uzbekistan’s Health Ministry said on Tuesday that 18 children suffering from acute respiratory illness died after taking excessive doses of Dok 1 Max cough syrup, made by Marion Biotech.
