What is hypnotherapy?
MOST of us learned everything we know about hypnosis from television shows, where people are placed under a “spell.”
So it’s no surprise there’s a fair amount of skepticism about it.
But hypnotherapy is recognized as a talk therapy by the British Psychological Society and is considered a useful treatment for problems including anxiety, addiction, and even IBS.
The idea of hypnotherapy is to induce a mild trance, i.e. a relaxed state, a bit like when we allow our mind to wander or switch to autopilot, and then introduce suggestions about how we would like to feel or behave or explore the subconscious. .
Up to 90% of our behavior is governed by the unconscious, according to experts.
