Killenummery and Killery Community Hub – Introducing a new series of Health and Wellbeing events

the Killenummery and Killery Community Center is a community center for local citizens in the area that works to provide the services locals want and need.

the Killenummery and Killery Community Center they have recently started hosting a variety of events, specifically their Health and Wellness seminars.

The launch of the series was held on August 29, 2022, and the first seminar will be held on September 29, 2022.

Health and Wellness seminars cover a variety of topics with a focus on Mental Wellness.

The aim of the seminars is to provide an innovative vision on how to manage our mental health and promote positive mental well-being.

The inspiration for the Health and Wellness series stemmed from the challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing struggle arising from the aftermath of the pandemic.

The current cost of living crisis imposes a significant amount of anxiety on individuals and families and this will be prevalent during the winter months, particularly due to the rising cost of diesel, oil and the cost of food.

Among these challenges, maintaining positive Mental Health and Mental Well-being is crucial. Each seminar includes a series of talks from various Mental Wellness advocates.

The event was opened by RTÉ journalist and acclaimed author Carole Coleman, joined by Leitrim County Council President Eita Reynolds; Guest speaker Martina Mitchell discussed stories of great resilience in the midst of great adversity; and they were also joined by Irish Eurovision winner Charlie McGettigan.

The first seminar in the series includes talks by guest speakers Andy Moran, County Leitrim GAA Senior Manager and former Mayo footballer; ALPS’s Frank Diamond (All Lives are Precious); Justin Campbell, former Galway pitcher and former director of the Rutland Center in Dublin; Martina Mitchell, who will once again speak about her powerful story of resilience in the midst of great adversity, and Kinlough man Colin Regan, who is the GAA Community and Health Manager at Croke Park.

Irish Eurovision winner Charlie McGettigan will join the diverse line-up to provide entertainment for all. The event will be hosted by mental health advocate Valerie Colgan, who is also a co-founder with Hubert McHugh of the ‘Leitrim’s Health is Wealth’ programme.

Topics discussed in the Health and Wellness seminars include the importance of exercise for mental health, suicide prevention, fighting alcohol, drug and gambling addiction, stories of resilience in the midst of great adversity and much more. plus.

Killenummey and Killery areas Development Association also organized a safety night at Killenummery Community Center to address crime prevention in our local area.

An Garda Siochana were delighted to be invited to a well attended meeting by Killenummery and Killery Community Center on September 9, 2022 to discuss home safety and other related matters.

Sergeant Orla Mc Grath of the Leitrim Community Police addressed the meeting regarding Community, Community Alert and Text Alert matters, Sergeant Cara Kiernan, Crime Prevention Officer addressed the meeting regarding the Crime Prevention Council and home security.

Inspector Collins was present on behalf of Leitrim District Commissioner of Officers Chris Grogan. As outlined in the meeting, Gardaí welcome the opportunity to attend such meetings organized by community alert groups/local groups to provide advice and assistance in areas of interest.

Vanessa Clarke, Community Watch Development Officer, Muintir na Tire made a valuable contribution on crime prevention.

Olivia Fitzgerald Murphy, Ballagh Center Manager, Rossinver, spoke about the hanging alert for Co. Leitrim and the excellent calling service they provide to people living alone in isolated rural areas.

Teresa and Dermot from Lock Up Alarms in Manorhamilton also spoke at the meeting about security devices available to make people’s homes safer.
