South Portland and Westbrook, MaineMaine Behavioral Health Care (MBH) announced today that it has appointed an experienced healthcare communications professional to the position of director of communications and public affairs.

Nadine Grossowho for more than 20 years served as vice president and director of communications for the Maine Health Care Association, will join MBH on August 22 as director of communications and public affairs.

Grosso joins MBH after serving as communications leader for an organization representing more than 200 nursing homes and assisted living facilities in Maine, a position he has held since 2000.

“Nadine’s experience aligns well with our mission at MBH,” said Kelly Barton, MBH president. “She knows what it’s like to advocate for vulnerable populations on behalf of a health care provider.”

Prior to her current position, Grosso served as public relations director for the New Jersey Health Care Association and prior to that was director of programs for the Cherry Hill (NJ) Municipal Alliance on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. She began her career as a public relations assistant at a community hospital in Pennsylvania.

“Nadine is thoughtful and strategic and has a good understanding of the critical role communications play for healthcare providers, both in communities and between care teams. I am confident that she will be an effective spokesperson for our organization as we pursue our vision and mission on behalf of the communities we serve,” said Barton.

“Serving the communication needs of Maine Behavioral Healthcare patients and care team members gives me the opportunity to continue to work on behalf of those in our community who depend on dedicated healthcare professionals for their well-being,” Grosso said. “MBH’s mission is important and it is even more vital as our communities emerge from the public health emergency. This is an opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives.” Grosso replaces Marc Glass, who left MBH earlier this year to lead communications efforts at the Mitchell Institute in Augusta. In his role, Grosso will be responsible for external and internal communications, ensuring that MBH patients, members of the care team and the community at large are aware of the work being done every day in the organization to support people with behavioral health needs.
