Meta’s CEO told Joe Rogan that he now practices mixed martial arts every morning before starting work.
Mark Zuckerberg said that waking up in the morning and looking at his phone feels like he’s been “punched in the stomach,” eventually forcing him to change his exercise routine.
On Thursday’s “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Zuckerberg described his morning routine to host Joe Rogan, saying he gets an hour or more of exercise every morning to deal with the stress of his role as CEO of Meta.
“I wake up in the morning, I look at my phone, you get like a million messages of stuff coming in, and it’s usually not good. People save the good stuff to tell me in person,” Zuckerberg said.
“So it’s almost like you wake up and get punched in the stomach, so it’s okay… now I need to reboot and be able to be productive and not be stressed about this,” he added.
Zuckerberg says he likes exercises “that require total focus” to take his mind off work.
“I used to run a lot, but the problem with running is that you can think a lot,” he said.
Zuckerberg has previously extolled his love for surfing and foilinganother water sport, but he told Rogan that lately he has gotten into MMA, or mixed martial arts.
“What is something that is super attractive physically, but also intellectually, where you can’t afford to focus on anything else? MMA is the perfect thing because if you stop paying attention for one second, you’ll end up in the background,” he said.
“I’ve found that, especially as the company has scaled, it’s more important,” she told Rogan, referring to her morning exercise routine.
