Mental health at risk in record mood slump

More than one in five adults may suffer from a psychiatric disorder in the lowest mood scores recorded by the Scottish Health Survey. After more than ten years of relative emotional stability, the researchers noted major depression, which was deeper among women.

Some 22 per cent of Scottish adults scored so low in mental well-being that they might be struggling with a psychiatric disorder, up from 17 per cent in 2017 and 19 per cent in 2019. The most recent results, from telephone interviews with 4,557 adults last year, they found mental problems. wellness ratings fell from 49.8 in 2019 to 48.6 in 2021. The figure was the lowest on record since the investigation began in 2008.
