The public schools of Delhi are observing a Mental Health Week this week with a special focus on “combating exam stress”.
This week-long focus on mental health awareness began on October 10 and will continue through October 15. Activities that have already taken place include town hall speeches on “putting mental health first” and movie screenings on the topic of mental health for all students.
Over the next few days, students in grades IX to XII will participate in “Open Yourself” sessions to share their thoughts on exams, subjects and school. Teachers and members of the School Management Committee will also attend Mental Well-being camps and workshops at the zonal level.
“Given the misconceptions, myths, taboos and stigma surrounding mental health issues, people often suffer in silence and do not seek treatment for their conditions. Mental health awareness is an important initiative to improve understanding and acceptance of mental health conditions. This can help increase the willingness to receive treatment and counseling for those who need it. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to raise awareness on the subject of Mental Health, especially considering the havoc created by the last COVID-19 pandemic”, indicates a circular on the activities issued by the Educational Professional Guidance Directorate of the Education Directorate.
