Mental Health: You must prioritise this!

The importance of self-care cannot be stressed enough, therefore we must take care of not only our body, but also our thoughts and emotions.

Experts define mental illness as brain-based conditions that affect thinking, emotions, and behaviors. They include the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of people that affect the way those people think, feel, and behave.

A psychologist, Fred Rogers, once said: “Everything that is human is mentionable, and everything that is mentionable can be managed. When we talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.”

Medical experts have also said that there are numerous mental health disorders, but the most common are anxiety, psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, dementia, including stress, and trauma-related illnesses.

Mental health issues among young people need to be taken seriously as they usually face discrimination which makes it quite difficult to maintain a healthy and lasting relationship along with a socially active circle.

These problems can be caused by childhood abuse, social isolation, severe or prolonged stress, bereavement, domestic abuse, a neurological condition, or even drug and alcohol abuse.

They can have a long-term effect on people’s mental well-being, which can lead to suicide at some point in extreme cases.

Improving and maintaining your mental well-being helps prevent some mental health problems, and as a young person, self-awareness and self-care will keep you in check and lead to a healthy lifestyle.

A healthy state of mind can be achieved by building your self-esteem; frequently talking about their feelings; connect with friends and family; avoid drugs, alcohol, eat healthy and get enough sleep; peer support; make time for therapeutic activities and get professional help.

We advise that the authorities ensure that mental health education is strongly promoted even in schools and that awareness is significantly increased.
