Mobile app to bring down sudden cardiac death cases – ET HealthWorld

Lucknow: Leading cardiologists across India, including head of cardiology department at SGPGIMS, Professor Aditya Kapoor, have created a Revive CPR mobile app to strengthen the battle against sudden cardiac deaths.

Professor Kapoor said more than 15 lakh people die from sudden cardiac arrest annually in India. Only less than 1% can be saved as timely CPR is not available.

“Doctors felt that covering the entire country was a mammoth task and that technological help was needed to bridge the gap. Their effort was strengthened by the fact that India is the second largest user of smartphones, with more than 700 million users (of which 425 million are in rural areas),” he said.

The app is available on Android and iOS platforms.

“Provides step-by-step audio-visual guidance for performing CPR. Provides expert knowledge on how timely CPR can save lives, as well as explaining key issues such as the difference between heart attack and cardiac arrest, along with simple audio-visual cues for accurate identification for a timely intervention,” Kapoor said.

The app allows one-touch calls to the 108 ambulance service, a nearby automated external defibrillator (AED) locator app with automatic AED detection and guidance on its use, and linkage to a network of trained volunteers nationwide. TN
