Most healthcare workers say inflation is detrimental to mental health: Poll

These days, everyone feels the pinch of continued high inflation and healthcare workers are no exception.

A Harris Poll released He found out Wednesday afternoon that most health workers say inflation and financial stressors are detrimental to their mental health.

Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed said the stress surrounding their personal financial situation is having a negative impact on their sleep, and more than 50% said it has affected their mental health, self-esteem, physical health, and relationships at home.

Nearly 70% of healthcare workers said managing their finances is stressful, outpacing the number of Americans who express the same sentiment (56%). Also, about two-thirds of health care workers said they live paycheck to paycheck, according to the survey.

Looking ahead, approximately 80% of healthcare workers are concerned about macroeconomic headwinds such as continued inflation or a potential recession that could create a bigger negative impact on your personal finances. More than 70% of these employees credited their employers for caring about their mental and physical health, as well as giving them the flexibility to manage their personal lives during work hours.

Other key survey findings include that 71% of healthcare workers would be more likely to stay in a job if their employer offered them a pay-on-demand benefit. More than 40% of those surveyed said their employer does not provide adequate resources or benefits to manage financial stress.

The Harris poll marks the latest research on the effects of sustained inflation on the behavioral well-being of Americans, with a particular focus on the health care community. During the summer, Lifeworks released a report that noted that many Americans are struggling to meet their basic needs due to inflation and has had a significant impact on their mental health.
