Most stressed areas in America: Where do these Tennessee cities rank?


NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tennesseans are stressed out and a new report proves it.

According Wallet CenterHigh inflation, rising homicide rates and family stress are just some of the reasons why some residents are stressed.


The personal finance company recently compared 182 U.S. cities to determine where residents were most and least stressed. Stress levels were measured based on four key factors: 1.) work stress, 2.) financial stress, 3.) family stress, and 4.) health and safety stress.

In fact, the report found that those residing in Memphis may be more stressed than others. WalletHub ranked Memphis as the fourth most stressed city in the country.

The report found that the top stressors for Memphians are related to financial issues. WalletHub indicated that median household income, the share of households behind on bill payments, and foreclosure rates are just a few of the metrics that were taken into account to determine financial stressors.

Memphis isn’t the only city in the Volunteer State experiencing stress. Overall, four major metropolitan areas in Tennessee made the list: Knoxville, at No. 57; Chattanooga, at No. 91; and Nashville, at No. 101.

Of all the Tennessee cities on the list, Nashville ranked highest for work-related stress, while Chattanooga ranked lowest.
