After police searched his bedroom and made financial inquiries, the force declared him a high-priority missing person.
The inquest heard that police found notes in her room hinting at her depression and possible suicidal thoughts.
Derbyshire Police discovered the body of Mr Prince on Wednesday afternoon (May 18) on land Moorway Lane, Littleover.
An inquest at Derby Coroner’s Court on February 1 by Peter Nieto, Derby and Derbyshire Area Coroner, concluded that Prince had died as a result of suicide after suffering from mental health problems.
Coroner Nieto said: “There was pre-planning done by Ben and he took himself to a relatively secluded location where he couldn’t be seen.
“In my view, a conclusion of suicide is appropriate, but that’s very much in the context of his mental health at the time.”
Born in Derby, Mr Prince had previously moved to Bristol after his parents separated.
There, he received treatment and counseling for his mental health problems, which he self-diagnosed as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Described as an intelligent person, Prince aspired to study computer science or mathematics at Cambridge University, before his mental health worsened between the ages of 19 and 25.
He returned to Derby to live with his father and sister again after becoming unemployed.
There he continued to struggle with his mental health for several years.
In a statement read at the investigation provided by DSI Barnes, they concluded that they did not believe any third party was involved.
The statement read: “The police investigation has not identified any third party involvement in Ben’s death and it has been established that there is possible mental health prior to his death.
“It is clear that he was an intelligent person who suffered with his mental health.
“This, along with covid-19, could be a contributing factor as to why Ben decided to kill himself.”
