New Blood Group Identified That Poses Serious Threats To Babies In Pregnant Women

New Blood Group: Apart from A, B, AB and O blood groups, there are other types of blood groups that have been identified. Scientists from UK’s University of Bristol and National Health Survey Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) have recently discovered a new and extremely rare blood type. It is named ‘Air’. Researchers say its identification could save lives in dangerous situations, reports Daily Bhaskar. Also Read – Hundreds march in Leicester, UK, amid violent clashes between Hindus and Muslims

How is blood group identified?

Any blood group is identified by the proteins present in the blood. This protein is normally found on the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). Common blood groups include A, B, AB and O. If your blood contains Rh protein, your blood group is positive, otherwise it becomes negative. It is always important to give people their blood group when needed. By not doing so, the body considers the other blood group as its enemy, causing the immune system to react severely. A 30-year-old mystery exposed

The research, published in the journal Blood, has uncovered a 30-year-old mystery. In fact, two cases related to blood group reached Bristol University scientists. After two pregnant women developed blood complications, their babies died in utero. The investigation revealed that the blood group of both the women was Air. After this, scientists looked at 30-year-old research that mentioned rare blood groups. In this research, complications or death have been mentioned in people’s bodies if their blood group is not the same. Scientists now understand that in some cases, the mother’s immune system can cause serious reactions when the mother and baby have different blood types.

The mother’s body works against the baby

If the mother’s blood group is Er, her immune system makes antibodies against the baby’s blood. These antibodies reach the baby through the placenta and cause hemolytic disease in him. This is a condition in which the mother’s antibodies can attack the unborn baby’s red blood cells (RBCs) and heart failure can lead to death.

Research will prevent blood-related deaths

This research has opened the way to identifying the Er blood group and finding ways to avoid the problems it causes. Early detection of symptoms of blood incompatibility during pregnancy will make it easier to save the life of mother and baby. Blood transfusion will also be easier. It is also said that soon scientists will develop ways to easily identify Er blood group.
