Dundee’s gentlemen are destined to be among the best groomers in Scotland as The Mantuary, a new concept in men’s grooming, has opened in the city. Based on Commercial Street, the company has set out to revolutionize men’s self-care in the city GQ calls ‘Scotland’s coolest’.
Designed to be more than your average lounge, The Mantuary was inspired by the shady, secret clubs of the 1920s. Bespoke artwork by contemporary British artists JJ Adams and Richard Blunt set the stage, and guests are invited to enjoy a coffee and savor the atmosphere before and after their appointments. With space to catch up on emails, chat with friends, or just enjoy some much-needed downtime, the idea of supporting a client’s mental well-being is central to the salon. Each member of the team has completed mental health first aid training, and is currently producing a bespoke line of CBD products designed to relax and de-stress.
As well as providing traditional barber services, The Mantuary has developed a menu of must-see treatments for clients to enjoy. Services range from manicures and pedicures to waxing, and even include holistic therapies such as reflexology and Indian head massage to ensure Dundee gentlemen leave The Mantuary feeling as good as they look.
With memberships available to purchase, the team hopes to build a real community within The Mantuary.
General Manager Savannah Lockerbie has said of the opening: “It has been wonderful to have had such a warm welcome to Dundee. We are offering a unique concept that has been very well received. Much more than your average man cave, The Mantuary is a space where clients can come in and enjoy a coffee, a drink or a cocktail and a chat, even on days when they’re not booked in for a treatment, and we’re hoping to create a real community here.”
