NHA extends open invitation to interested parties in building India’s digital health ecosystem – ET HealthWorld

New Delhi: National Health Authority (NHA), Implementing Agency for Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) Has openly invited all interested parties to share their Expressions of Expression (EoI) to develop innovative solutions that will help in nation building. AYUSHMAN BHARAT DIGITAL MISSION (ABDM) aims to create a seamless online platform that will enable interoperability in the digital healthcare ecosystem. The mission is conceived as a set of ‘digital building blocks’. Each building block is seen as a ‘digital public good’ that can be used by any entity in the digital health ecosystem and provides key capabilities that enable ABDM Vision.

Sharing the thoughts behind the NHA’s invitation for expression of interest (EoI), Dr. R.S. Sharma, CEO, NHA added, “ABDM strives to promote open and interdisciplinary standards in the digital health ecosystem. ABDM has developed building blocks and interoperable APIs to provide a seamless digital healthcare experience for all stakeholders – healthcare facilities, patients and healthcare professionals. The main building blocks of ABDM are ABHA, Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR), Health Facility Registry (HFR) and Health Information Exchange and Consent Manager (HIE-CM).

These building blocks are designed to enable the identification of participating organizations (health care providers, patients and health professionals) and to enable the exchange of interstitial health data with the consent of the patient. The evolving digital ecosystem is now accessible for integration into health facilities and health technology players.

Currently more than 800 participants are integrated with the ABDM registry and enable health data exchange via HIE-CM. Further details on connecting and integrating with the ABDM ecosystem are available on the ABDM Sandbox Portal: https://sandbox.abdm.gov.in/

Interested developers / parties can also make a significant contribution to the development of the national digital health ecosystem by sharing their expression of interest (EoI). The following are some illustrative examples of contributions to this cause:

1. Unified Health Interface (UHI) – NHA intends to develop a digital platform (like a unified payment interface or UPI) for interoperability between different digital solutions so that different solutions can be used to communicate to different stakeholders. 2. Health Claims Platform (HCP) – The NHA is developing a platform for public health claims. Healthcare providers (e.g. hospitals, labs) can submit their e-claims on this platform which can be received by payers for the process (e.g. insurers, TPA).
3. Software as a Service (SaaS) – Various digital health solutions can be used by healthcare providers. These may include solutions such as Hospital Information System (HIS), Hospital (or Health) Management Information System (HMIS), Laboratory Management Information System (LMIS), Teleconsultation Solution, Health Lockers, etc.
4. Open source solutions – Interested parties are also invited to contribute through open-source software solutions that may be made available for use by various organizations. This may include SaaS or any other tool that may be useful to healthcare providers in the software referred to in the paragraph above.
5. Other solutions – Interested parties having any other idea to contribute to the development of the national digital health ecosystem may also approach with a specific proposal.
