To address the situation, the state government, in partnership with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), is working on a mental health policy for children and adolescents.
“Post-Covid, states are facing a mental health crisis like never before,” said Raj Laxmi Dash, co-founder of odisha Rising Foundation, a volunteer organization working on mental health in the state.

The number of detected cases is just the tip of the iceberg. Screening, counseling and treatment need to be strengthened,” Dash said.

“We have gotten a very positive response from various state government departments and stakeholders who attended the first consultation meeting. We have been working on drafting a policy on child and adolescent mental health,” Seshadri said.
As part of the NIMHANS Samvad program in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the policy will have a protocol to help the government drive the mechanism to address mental health issues.
