ParticipACTION and YMCA offer free workout videos to get Canadians moving – Okanagan | Globalnews.ca

Working out from home just got easier and more affordable thanks to a partnership between the YMCA and ParticipACTION to power the Canadian experience. mental and physical health in an accessible online platform.

“ParticipACTION is something that is really there to help people get moving,” said Kellie Taylor Okanagan YMCA, vice president of Health Fitness and Aquatics.

“It’s really to tell people that activities and action and movement are so important for longevity and health in your golden years.”

The online streaming series is made up of two streams: one for beginners and one for those looking for moderate to advanced levels. Each video offers three different versions of the same exercise to encourage people to stay consistent and incorporate movement into their daily lives. The free videos are available on the YMCA’s online platform, YMCA from home and in Youtube.

“One hundred and fifty minutes of vigorous physical activity (per week) is the minimum requirement to be healthy over the years and only 20 percent of our population do it,” Taylor said.

“The other 80 percent don’t understand that, so ParticipACTION is really about promoting activities for our community.”

Michelle Moffatt, a health and fitness supervisor at the Okanagan YMCA, says that exercising consistently helps people achieve physical and mental fitness.

“When you progress through your workouts and build confidence in your skill set, your self-esteem starts to grow in your confidence level and it feels amazing. Those positive endorphins course through your body when you exercise,” Moffatt said.
