Nutritionist, Lovneet Batra reveals in her Instagram post ”Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal ailment commonly found in women of reproductive age that causes irregular menstrual cycles, excess body/facial hair, miscarriage, infertility, baldness, acne, elevated of androgens (male hormone), pain, high anxiety and depression. Food has been shown to have medicinal effects on many diseases and disorders.

Here are some seeds that have been found to help alleviate the symptoms of PCOS.

  1. Chia Seeds: Contains more than 20% protein and 60% omega 3 fatty acids. Chia seeds improve testosterone levels and help improve the quality of the egg from the ovary and therefore improve fertility .
  2. Fenugreek – The saponins and flavonoids found in fenugreek improve insulin-mediated glucose metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and balance hormones and lower cholesterol. It causes regularity in menstrual periods.
  3. Pumpkin Seeds: Pumpkin seeds provide many PCOS-fighting nutrients. They contain beta-sitosterol which inhibits the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT, which can help reduce hair loss and lower cholesterol.
  4. Flaxseeds: Flaxseeds help lower androgen levels in the body. They are also a rich source of lignin which increases the production of SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin) in the body, thereby reducing the action of hormones and maintaining balance.
  5. Sunflower seeds: Their high content of vitamin E stimulates the production of progesterone and they are rich in magnesium and selenium.
  6. Poppy seeds: Poppy seeds decrease the risk of symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome. They contain calcium, magnesium, B vitamins, and zinc, which play an important role in preventing and treating the symptoms of PCOS.
