If you are one of those who carries a few more pounds than you would like, and you feel that you have exhausted all the ways to lose them (although, have you tried putting down your phone?), you may get to a point where you lose all hope, although Adam Sullivan of evidence-based training says we should set realistic fat loss goals less than two pounds a week (if that’s what you’re trying to do).
Listen to James Smith’s inspiring message for the overweight
But British personal trainer James Smith has recently posted an inspiring message that will fill you with optimism. On TikTok, James admits that those with “50 to 70 pounds of body fat to lose” will probably be worried about stepping foot in the gym because “they’re programming what exercises they should be doing,” meaning they want to make sure they’re doing the right thing. best workouts to achieve optimal fat loss. They might also be hesitant to enter the gym due to fear of ridicule (or the intimidation factor).
And so, worrying and worrying about these things will certainly make you demotivated. But James says that overweight people “overlook the simplest ways to help them lose fat.” He admits there must be a calorie deficit involved, but in terms of exercise, James says people who carry extra weight can use that to their advantage.
He uses a 15kg weighted vest as an example for himself, adding: “I’m not picking on people who are overweight or have weight, but even the simplest tasks are going to be much more difficult. Walk or even perform a lunge, or climb the stairs. It’s going to be a lot harder if I wear this for a few hours.”
“For many of you who are carrying huge amounts of excess weight, you essentially have enough stamina in your body to burn more calories than other people.”
“Don’t underestimate going for a walk, going outside, choosing to take the stairs. Understand that it is a tool, it is something you can use.”
“Something as simple as taking the stairs and monitoring your food intake, over the course of three to six months, means that after a while, you could be saying goodbye to the amount of weight a weighted vest weighs down. And when you lose that weight, suddenly the thought of going to a gym and working out might not seem so daunting.”
It is certainly an inspiring message, and one that many should heed. Especially since, as Adam Sullivan explains in a video on your Instagram account, “No exercise directly results in fat loss,” since it all boils down to putting you in a calorie deficit. This doesn’t contradict James’s message that simply dating isn’t going to work, because it will. But it makes sense within the context of going to a gym.
It doesn’t make sense to spend money on a gym membership to walk on a treadmill and lift some weights, although it has been claimed that muscle gain may also play a role in fat loss – if you are not watching what you eat. Combine these two messages: stay active and reduce the number of calories you consume daily, stick with it and you’ll soon see the pounds come off.
