Ghaziabad: In view of the series of unfortunate dog bite incidents around Delhi-NCR, civic bodies have taken note of the matter and introduced tsrciter rules for pet parents. Recently, the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has banned residents from keeping ferocious Pitbull, Rottweiler and Dogo Argentino breeds as pets. “Three breeds – Pitbull, Rottweiler and Dogo Argentino – are ferocious (Khunkhar), and no permission will be given to keep these dogs. No license will be given. If anyone buys one of these, he/she will be held responsible. All three Castes have been banned in Ghaziabad,” BJP leader and GMC councilor Sanjay Singh told PTI. Guide to keeping pets in Ghaziabad
- The civic body has issued another guideline for pet-owners according to which they will have to get a license for their dog, which will be issued from November 1, and no family can have more than one pet dog.
- Pet-owners living in high-rise complexes must use the service elevator to take their dogs outside and ensure that they wear a muzzle when in public.
- Pet-owners must obtain registration within two months.
- Pet owners who already have dogs of this breed must have them neutered within two months.
- In the board meeting of the civic body held on Saturday, sterilization of dogs has been declared mandatory. Without sterilization, certificate registration will not be granted.
- If the dog is less than six months old, the owner must submit an affidavit confirming that they will sterilize the dog when it becomes a puppy.
- The mayor said dog-owners love their pets, but they also have to think about children who have suffered serious injuries in dog attacks.
- All Zonal Officers of GMC have been instructed to send notices to inform the pet-owners about the rules and regulations passed in the board meeting.
- Regarding stray dogs, Mayor Sharma said residents would be allowed to feed them at a designated place.
Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) will fine dog-owners if complaints are received from RWA (Residents Welfare Association). Earlier, the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Panchkula Municipal Corporation had banned Pitbull and Rottweiler breeds of dogs as pets within the city limits.
