Priyanshu Painyuli talks to Prateek Sur about her ordeal with mental health, how people in show business are constantly feeding off each other’s energies, and how everyone needs to unplug from time to time, just to maintain the perfect balance in their lives. . Talk excerpts:

Being in show business, have you ever faced mental health issues?

Being in show business, I have not faced any problems as such, but I think I have also understood mental health issues recently. It is only in the last 5-6 years that the understanding has come to many of us and you start to understand it much more. I faced hard times when I first came to Mumbai, you settle down and try to find the balance between making money and also doing a good job. So, you go through a lot of slack and a lot of mental pressure. But I can’t call it a mental health issue, because it’s a fairly common thing that people face anywhere during their initial phase of struggle.

What should people in show business do to maintain proper mental health?

Show business is mentally and physically very, very exhausting. To maintain good mental health, I believe that good exercise is important. That just doesn’t mean physical exercises but also mental exercises. You can do yoga or any type of exercise. Sometimes even reading a book sitting in a garden is an exercise. Playing a sport is very good. Whatever keeps you going and helps you maintain mental and physical well-being, that’s important.

How important is it to disconnect from work?

Yes, it is also very, very important that you turn off your work. We keep constantly thinking about our work. As freelancers, it’s not a 9 to 5 job. Sometimes we have to turn it off and not think about what we’re going to do next or what we do as artists. It consumes a lot of our time and thought. But the idea is to just turn it off and pay attention to your family, your friends, and your partner and spend more time with them, and then share the love and care with them. That helps.

How important is maintaining good mental health for celebrities?

Whether you’re in this industry or not, whether you’re an athlete or in IT or the corporate or defense forces, anywhere, I think everyone is dealing with mental health issues today. We all go through many difficult times in our lives and we should try to keep our mental health balanced. You have to do things that make you feel good. It can be as simple as eating your favorite food or going to your favorite place or meeting your favorite person. I feel that the idea or the key is to balance your life between your work, your love life, your family, your friends, etc., and not go to the extreme of one thing. Balance is the key. As a celebrity, you need it more because you are also very drained by the energies of others. So it’s very, very important to maintain that balance, I think.
