john wall – who drew the second highest salary in NBA history this season – I was not happy about sitting out the whole year with the Rockets.
But he is not a fool.
I’m told John Wall will exercise his $47.4 million player option for next season.
At $47,366,760, Wall has the second-highest salary in the NBA for the upcoming season. A 31-year-old whose injuries knocked him out of stardom will never come close to that kind of money again.
The rocket rebuild he’ll probably try to trade Wall this offseason. His expiring contract could make some deals easier. I like it if the Lakers are willing to give up picks to download russell westbrook. But Wall’s huge salary limits potential business builds.
If it’s not dealt, maybe Wall will try again to set up the game for Houston. The NBA could intervene (or not).
A purchase is also possible, especially after the exchange deadline. Although the Rockets could release Wall sooner, they would at least keep their options open including him until a trade is no longer allowed. The wall has already been linked to wizards, who originally signed him to this super-max contract. Fresh from his long layoff, Wall would likely have multiple suitors if he were bought. He would be much more attractive with a cheaper contract.
But before he goes there, Wall is securing every last dollar of his current contract.
